What is next after 17 Miles Drive? You may want to drive for another 20 mins to reach Carmel Beach. This is a 2 km long crescent paradise beaches attracts visitors and local to it finest scenery.
Dog Friendly Fun Zone
Once you reached Carmel Beach, you will notice this beach is super dog friendly. Dog owners bringing their dogs to play and mingle with the rest of the dogs here, a fun zone for human and canine too. You even find free plastic bags for dog poo at the beaches. Hotels and restaurants here welcoming dogs to lodge or dine too!
No House Number
You will also see fairy tale cottages, secret garden, antique shops near Carmel Beach. If you are trying to find the house number in the cottages, there is none. Residents who live in Carmel-by-the sea has no street addresses anywhere in town. So how did they get their post? Post mails has to be picked up at the local nearby post office. You may also want to take a look at the local post office located at Dolores St. and 5th Post Office. You will find old fashion mail box lining up like an antique.

If you are doing 17 Miles Drive, you can include Carmel-by-the-sea in your itinerary. It is just 20 mins drive from 17 Miles. If you love dogs, this is the place for you to see various type of species parading with their owners.
Weather in the winter is still pretty warm but the sea water is pretty cold. You will see people jog, hike and surf in this beach. Watching the sunset is not a bad idea to end you day after 17 Miles Drive.

Oh how beautiful! I don’t understand the 17 mile drive unless it is the actual distance however, that 2 miles of a curve around the ocean is breath taking. Cottages rather than houses the whole area sounds so quaint.
I once took the scenic 17-mile drive. I still have photos of the Cypress tree that is no longer there.

Honestly, if you don’t mind the drive I think it’s totally worth it and it’s awesome to finally get to the beach and just have fun! Love that it’s pet friendly as well!
Carmel Beach is pretty nice and fun plus they are dog friendly it’s really important for travelers with pets. Would love to visit here one day. And oh that first photo of your is just gorgeous!

Carmel and the 17 mile drive in Northern California is one of the most scenic destinations in Cali! I agree with you: the homes there are lovely and charming providing candy for our eyes.
