People who visit Hong Kong would usually include Macau and vice versa, it seems like a good package to combine the two cities in your itinerary. Macau is the neighbor of Hong Kong and only 60 km east of Macau, just an hour away.
Taking a ferry is one of the most popular ways to travel between Macau and Hong Kong. Well, we flew in Macau International Airport from Singapore and take a ferry to Hong Kong, then flying out from HK to Singapore. The cheapest and most convenient way to reach Hong Kong is via ferry but there are other ways too.
Three Ways to travel from Macau to Hong Kong
There are other ways to reach Hong Kong, such as
- by bridge (Take the bus over the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, 40 mins)
- by helicopter, 15 mins but very expensive, at least over USD 500 one way.
- by ferry
Two Major Ferry Terminals in Macau
The hotel-casinos in Macau usually offer free shuttle service to bring their guests to the ferry terminals, it does not matter which terminals you choose to board your ferry. Macau is only small. We choose to board our ferry from Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal as it is nearer to Emperor Palace Hotel where our hotel is in Macau side where the ruins of St Paul is. If you are staying in the Cotai Strip area (the Venetian), then Taipa Ferry Terminal is more convenient.
TurboJET
TurboJet is a high-speed vessel which takes only an hour to reach Hong Kong. There are several piers where you can choose to exit in Hong Kong. We choose to exit in Kowloon pier as it is nearer to the West Hotel where we stay in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Pre-book your ticket
We have pre-book our tickets online to enjoy a discount and to avoid disappointment. Since we have already gotten our ticket online, we do not have to purchase from the ticketing counter in the terminal. Just bring your voucher to a red kiosk to scan and exchange for valid tickets. Departure is on second floor and arrival is on the first floor.
Ticketing Office and Self-Service Ticketing Kiosk
Bring your printed voucher to issue for valid tickets from the red TurboJET self-service ticketing kiosk machine. The steps are pretty simple, select the items in the screen and then scan the vouchers, tickets will be printed out.
Use these tickets to do your check in at the departure hall of the ferry terminal.
Departure Gate for Helicopter
Departure Gate for TurboJet
You need to show your passport at the departure and tickets to the officer.
Waiting area
The waiting area was empty as we were the first to reach here but it was full when the TurboJet is about to depart.
Where do you catch a ferry to Macau if you are coming from Hong Kong?
There are a number of places, such as:-
- Shun Tak center in Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island. (this is more frequent, every 15 mins from 7 am until midnight)
- China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon.
TurboJEt Ride Review
The seats are clean and comfortable, the ferry ride is stable and fast. You are allowed to eat and drink on the ferry. Place your luggage at the designated area only.

Final thoughts:
There are several ways to visit Hong Kong from Macau and TurboJET is the most convenient way to reach Hong Kong from Macau or vice versa. An hour pleasant ride to reach Hong Kong.

Turbo Jet sounds like a really fun way to get across! We have similar services getting from Ohio to Canada, it is so nice to sit back and just relax instead of driving sometimes. Nice to know you get a discount booking online too!
This looks so amazing!!! I’ve never been to Hong Kong but I would love to visit it soon, very very soon.
I’m hoping to get to both Macau and Hong Kong one day. Thank you so much for such a detailed guide on the ferry. The pre-booking has caught us off-guard before in other locations.
Wow I would love to go to Hong Kong! I feel like I would opt for the air transportation. I have always wanted to do that!
I’ve never been to Macau before but I hope that I can one day. I am so happy you gave so much details on the ferry. Turbo Jet sounds great.
The ferry looks like such a convenient way to get around I love the station! Very different from what you see in America -Sondra Barker @cuisineandtravel.com
it looks good, and since I have never been to macau, I now have an idea when I plan to visit.
This brings back a lot of memories for me, and some not so good lol! It was a bumpy ride from HK to Macau, and though we enjoyed visiting, it’s one trip I’ll never forget!
