This hotel gives us the best variety of breakfast during my 8 days stay in Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tainan to Alishan, stopping at Fenqihu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Our\u00a0journey was a bit challenging as we need to drive from Tainan to Alishan. \u00a0Driving in Alishan is no joke, the roads can be very twisted and there were many sharp turns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Despite the challenge, we still have no regrets driving to Alishan because we can have the luxury of stopping along the route and take pictures, enjoying the beautiful views.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/alishan-map.png\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1389\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/alishan-map.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"632\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/alishan-map.png 632w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/alishan-map-300x95.png 300w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/alishan-map-500x158.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fenqihu\/\u596e\u8d77\u6e56<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Fenqihu is just one hour drive before reaching Alishan, also known as Jiufen of Central Taiwan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is a great stop for few hours before heading up to Alishan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 We decided to have a break here. \u00a0<\/span>Fenqihu has a famous Old Street, look like the one in Jiufen, except smaller and very narrow, selling different kind of local delights.<a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_111420w.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1321\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_111420w-648x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"923\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Fenqihu is a small village well hidden in the forested mountain sides.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>After we parked our rental car, we searched for the hidden Old Street and planned to have our lunch there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_112835w.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1322\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_112835w-1024x707.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We had the famous Fenqihu lunch box, which included a deep-fried cutlet\/kurobuta -black pork, Taiwanese sausage and some mountain veggies on rice.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Coming to Fenqihu, we won&#8217;t want to miss the famous Aiyu Jelly drinks, it is a must try drinks here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The temperature in Fenqihu was quite cooling and nice, around 25 c but I felt a bit warm after some high intensity hiking with all the stairs going up and down. I then took off my cardigan and took a picture with the\u00a0beautiful scenes of lush green tropical trees behind me.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_114329w.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1325\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_114329w-897x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"667\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Fenqihu train station is just near the Old Street, within walking distance. \u00a0The train is still in operation but only a short stretch, mainly for tourists.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_113736.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1324\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_113736-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The train look very much like the one I saw in Japan, mainly because Alisan Forrest Railway was first established during the Japanese colonial period. \u00a0The Japanese built and used the train for many kinds of raw material exports, most importantly wood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/day6alisan.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1303\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/day6alisan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.klook.com\/jump\/activity\/498-discover-alishan-mountain-kaohsiung\/?adid=10877&amp;af_wid=1904\"><b>Alishan<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The weather was unpredictable when we arrived in Alishan, the sky started to drizzle.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was foggy from time to time.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_140751.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1329\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_140751-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We went for a forest trail and enjoyed the fresh air in Alishan forest. \u00a0The weather get cooler, around 15-18 C once you were in the forest. \u00a0Geared up with another white jacket to keep me warmer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_140125w.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1326\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_140125w-507x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"507\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Cypresses and Cedars forest are awesomely photogenic in Alishan mountain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I heard the mountain has one of the most spectacular views for sunrise and sunset but it was ashamed that we did not stay overnight in Alishan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_142122w.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1332\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_142122w-820x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"729\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Watch out for the red train coming from my back!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_141628w.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1331\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_141628w-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The cold weather was just so suitable to have the\u00a0famous Alishan coffee. \u00a0I heard from the stall the\u00a0coffee beans are organically grown and hand picked in Alishan and is characterized by a rich sweet taste.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_143340w.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1335\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_143340w-1024x928.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"529\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We then had the steamboat buffet in Alishan before going down the mountain. \u00a0We were trying to leave early before it get too dark and too foggy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_142228w.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1334\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161021_142228w-1024x763.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"435\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Renyi Lake Hotel (53km) -1.5 hours<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Going down from Alishan can be quite challenging, stand by some motion sickness pills is my advise. \u00a0Tonight we stayed in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/partners\/partnersearch.aspx?cid=1769828&amp;pcs=1&amp;hl=en&amp;hid=685069\">Renyi Lake Hotel<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0We reached our hotel at around 5pm and had our dinner there\u00a0because we were all too dizzy after the mountainous rides. \u00a0We were so dizzy that we did not manage to explore the nearby Chiayi night market which we had
