Day Trip to Bago<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Bago is a small town about 70km away from northeast of Yangon, a town full of historical sites, worth to do a day tour when you are visiting Yangon Myanmar. The old name is called Pegu, it was the ancient capital of Myanmar. Bagu town is where the famous Burmese king, King Bayinnaung’s reign from 1511-1581.<\/p>\n

Why visit Bago?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Bago city is still very backward and disorganized but there is an abundance of important religious sites here.\u00a0 One of them is the outdoor\u00a0Mya Tha Lyaung Reclining Buddha.\u00a0 There are two reclining Buddha in Bago city.\u00a0 An indoor and an outdoor version.\u00a0 There are no entrance fees for the outdoor reclining Buddha.<\/p>\n

Outdoor Reclining Buddha<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Unlike other Reclining Buddha in Myanmar, Mya Tha Lyaung Reclining Buddha is located outdoor which make it different from the others found resting in the sheltered area.<\/p>\n

82 meter Long Reclining Buddha<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When you go near the reclining Buddha, you are not able to take the full body because it is so huge and long.\u00a0 You need to go further away to take the whole picture of the reclining Buddha.<\/p>\n

Why Buddha in this position?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Reclining Buddha images represent the final phase of the historical Buddha’s life on earth before entering parinirvana.\u00a0 Usually seen with Buddha’s right side with his head supported by his hand or with a pillow.<\/p>\n

How Long to visit Mya Tha Lyaung Reclining Buddha?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

15 mins are more than enough to spend looking at the outdoor reclining Buddha as there are no other shops nearby for you to visit.<\/p>\n

Bago Lunch<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Our lunch took place in a home restaurant solely for tourists as I did not see any other customers besides tourists.\u00a0 There is a menu in English and dishes include Burmese, Thai, Malaysian & Indonesian, Chinese & Western cuisine.<\/p>\n

The private tour driver usually drops their guests at this restaurants and come back to pick them after an hour or so.\u00a0 I did not see any other decent restaurant in Bago as this town is really\u00a0scrappy.<\/p>\n

Our lunch total cost less than USD 20.00 with 2 cans of soft drinks and one coffee. This is for 3 people.<\/p>\n

Final thoughts :<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mya Tha Lyaung Reclining Buddha is located outdoor and is not sheltered like the other reclining Buddha such as\u00a0Shwethalyaung Buddha<\/a> in Bago.\u00a0 There are two reclining Buddha in Bago town, an indoor and outdoor version.\u00a0 The outdoor reclining Buddha has lesser makeup as compared to the indoor Shwethalyaung Buddha<\/a>.\u00a0 I suspect the makeup on the Buddha’s face wear out due to the rain and sun since it is sitting outdoor. (Just a wild guess)<\/p>\n
