{"id":26178,"date":"2019-05-15T10:35:20","date_gmt":"2019-05-15T10:35:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/?p=26178"},"modified":"2019-05-18T05:51:48","modified_gmt":"2019-05-18T05:51:48","slug":"europe-longest-bridge-vasco-da-gama-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/2019\/05\/europe-longest-bridge-vasco-da-gama-bridge\/","title":{"rendered":"Europe Longest Bridge &#8211; Vasco da Gama Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love bridges and seen many of them when I travel to different countries, such as the <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2018\/02\/golden-gate-bridge-san-francisco-california\/\">San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge,<\/a> <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2018\/04\/bixby-creek-bridge-monterey-california-usa\/\">Bixby Bridge<\/a> (<a href=\"\/wordpress\/2018\/05\/usa-road-trip-self-drive-california-arizona-nevada-summary-itinerary\/\">California<\/a>, USA), <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2018\/11\/japan-shikoku-the-most-spectacular-view-on-the-shimanami-kaido-kirosan-observatory-park-imabari\/\">Shimanami Kaido Bridges<\/a> (<a href=\"\/wordpress\/2019\/03\/all-you-need-about-shikoku-japan-top-attractions-food-hotels-to-stay\/\">Shikoku Japan<\/a>), Lisbon imitation Golden Gate called <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2019\/04\/portugal-lisbon-learn-about-portuguese-sea-power-through-belem-tower-monument-to-the-discoveries\/\">Ponte 25 de Abril<\/a> and many more.\u00a0 Bridge connecting places and people and I love looking at the bridges when I travel around the world.\u00a0 You will find some very unique architecture and very beautiful creation.<\/p>\n<p>During my Spain-Portugal tour, I was lucky enough to experience the longest bridge in Europe called The Vasco da Gama Bridge. In case you like to know who is Vaco da Gama, he is the greatest Portuguese explorer and the first European to reach India by sea. You get to see his name appeared in many places in Portugal. Portuguese are very proud of their sea power and sea culture so they named the longest bridge in Europe as Vasco da Gama Bridge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26179 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_083736.jpg\" alt=\"Europe Longest Bridge - Vasco da Gama Bridge\" width=\"1024\" height=\"449\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Vasco da Gama Bridge is located in Lisbon, capital of Portugal. It is the longest bridge in Europe with a total length of 17.2 km. We spent about 15 mins to drive across this bridge which is seemingly endless.\u00a0 It is quite an impressive sight how it spans the river.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26183 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_083933.jpg\" alt=\"Europe Longest Bridge - Vasco da Gama Bridge\" width=\"1024\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bridge has 6 lanes in total, and toll fees are collected through a toll plaza in the south bank of the Tagus at Euro 2.70 per car.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-26197 size-full alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_084231.jpg\" alt=\"Europe Longest Bridge - Vasco da Gama Bridge\" width=\"1024\" height=\"633\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The view on both sides of the river was cool.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-26191 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_084106.jpg\" alt=\"Europe Longest Bridge - Vasco da Gama Bridge\" width=\"1024\" height=\"528\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Vasco da Gama Bridge was built (1998) because Ponte 25 de Abril Bridge (the imitation of Golden Gate Bridge) was unable to handle the volumes of commuters and too much traffic jam. It only took 18 months to complete, can you believe that?<\/p>\n<h3>Fishing Boats in Tagus River<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26200 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_084526.jpg\" alt=\"Europe Longest Bridge - Vasco da Gama Bridge\" width=\"1024\" height=\"496\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Tagus River at low tide<\/h3>\n<p>Tagus River is the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula, it flows from Spain and Portugal. If you travel to these two countries, you will hear of Tagus River often.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-26202\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_084539.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"515\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Final thoughts:<\/h3>\n<p>Glad to experience the Vasco da Gama Bridge, the longest bridge in Europe since I am a fan of bridges.
