Portugal and Spain are both parts of the European Union, so we are free to travel from one to the other. We don&#8217;t have to come down for passport stamping at all.\u00a0 Portuguese roads are generally good, we experience good highways and toll roads. Glad that I have the opportunity to see the cork tree farm during my tour in Portugal-Spain. In fact, Portugal is the world&#8217;s largest cork producer.<\/p>\n<p>The good thing is the cork trees aren&#8217;t cut down or damaged when the cork is harvested, you will notice the skin has two different colors (below picture) due to stripping. Stripping is the process of extracting the bark of the cork tree.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26296 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_092206.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"895\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are many things made from cork, if you stumbled across a gift shop in Portugal, you will find products made from cork include hats, shoes, handbags, wallets and many more. It can be seen almost everywhere especially in gift shops. It is believed the rooster is a symbol of faith and bring in good luck.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26308 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102153.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Gifts Shop and Snack Bar<\/h3>\n<p>We have a break in the highway and went in to take a look at the restaurant and gifts shop.\u00a0 The gifts shop here offers interesting souvenirs for travelers to bring back home as it is near the border of Spain.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26343 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102929.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some of the local Portuguese cookies with traditional flavor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26312 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102307.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Honey in a cute bottle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26314 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102339.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Spice &amp; Seasoning Products<\/h3>\n<p>I spotted piri-piri, it is hot I know and tasted in<a href=\"\/wordpress\/2019\/04\/top-16-things-you-need-to-know-before-visiting-portuguese-fairly-tale-city-sintra\/\"> Sintra<\/a> Portugal. It was the Portuguese exploration of the African coast, beginning in the 1400s, that sparked their huge love affair with the small hot pepper, Piri-Piri.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26316 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102352.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Olives<\/h3>\n<p>Not surprising to find olive in the bottles but it is hard to bring home, I would prefer to have olive in a can. It is safer to put into the check-in luggage for cans.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26317 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102358.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Ginja Alcohol<\/h3>\n<p>I spotted Ginja in <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2019\/04\/top-30-things-to-do-in-lisbon-portugal\/\">Lisbon<\/a> and learn that it is Portuguese alcohol made by infusing ginja berries, a type of sour cherry.\u00a0 It is a type of traditional alcohol consumes in Lisbon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26318 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102408.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Fish in Cans<\/h3>\n<p>It is kind of a tradition for Portugal, the <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2019\/04\/portugal-the-fantastic-world-of-the-portuguese-sardines-for-lisbon-tourists\/\">canned fish<\/a>, from sardines to mackerel &amp; from tuna to anchovy. I love the cute packaging and I suggest these are great for souvenirs too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26320 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102428.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Cigarette vending machine<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26327 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20181225_102600.jpg\" alt=\"Portugal - Spain Road Trip\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Self Serve Restaurant<\/h3>\n<p>There is a small self-serve restaurant next to the gifts shop. We spotted countless of olive farms in Spain road trip. The country produces almost half of the world&#8217;s olive oil, more than three times as much as Italy, Greece and Tunisia. Andalusia of Spain was the major olive oil supplier for the Roman Empire back then according to archaeological evidence.
