Bondi Beach is a famous beach in Australia and if you are visiting Sydney, you can’t miss Bondi Beach. We have been to tons of beaches during our road trip from Gold Coast<\/a> to Sydney, we visit beaches in Coffs Harbour<\/a>, Port Macquarie<\/a>, Newcastle<\/a> and now Bondi Beach in Sydney.
\nBy now, you will notice the “Beach culture” is a big part of Australia’s national identity. Well, I was here in the winter and the beach is still very busy and full of activities from the early morning.<\/p>\n

Crescent Shaped Beach<\/h3>\n

Bondi Beach is very near to the CBD of Sydney, only 20 mins drive. The iconic stretch of fine sand and curling waves are one of the world’s famous beach destination. When I stepped out from the car park, I notice the beach has a shape of the crescent which made it super unique and pretty. The crescent-shaped Bondi Beach measures about one km so it can be very crowded during summer.<\/p>\n

Bondi Pavilion<\/h3>\n

Bondi Pavilion is an iconic structure here, the art deco building houses cafes, a bar, a theatre, and change rooms. It’s used for community activities such as yoga, meditation, band competitions, and arts and crafts as well as having a bar area upstairs than be hired out.<\/p>\n

Australian National Heritage site<\/h3>\n

Bondi Beach is listed in the Australian National Heritage site and also popular filmed located for Australia drama and movies, hence you know why it is considered one of the most popular beaches in Australia.<\/p>\n

How do you pronounce the name “Bondi”?<\/h3>\n

Bondi is pronounced as Bon-“dye” not Bon”di”, but I overheard the American tourists pronounce it as Bon”di” \ud83d\ude42 . Bondi is an Aboriginal word meaning “water breaking over rocks” or “noise of water breaking over rocks”.<\/p>\n

Bondi Beach Sea Wall<\/h2>\n

The Bondi Beach Sea Wall has been in operation since the late 1970s and has featured a mix of street and contemporary art with strong social and political messages throughout the decades.\u00a0 Artists who wish to have their arts on the seawall has to submit an application and get the approval to paint.<\/p>\n

Surfing in Bondi Beach<\/a><\/h3>\n

Sydney has about 70 surf beaches that cater to all levels of surfing skill, Bondi Beach is Australia’s most famous surf Beaches, at times the waves can reach up to 4 meter high. Please stay away from the wild waves in the middle of Bondi beach if you are the beginner, choose to go to the northern corner instead as it’s protected by the Ben Buckler Headland and smaller waves there. Lots of Beach lesson<\/a> available here too. Please note the water can be very cold. (The average water temperature for summer is 23’c and winter at around 18’c)<\/p>\n
