Maroubra is less famous than Bondi<\/a> and Coogee<\/a> but in order to experience the real wave culture in Australia, you have to pay a visit here. I know is another beach again. Well, this is because the beach is part of life here in Australia. Australian love spending time at the beach and the beach culture has been well documented across film, literature, sound, and art since the late 19th century. Also, more than 85% of Australian live by the coast.\u00a0 How can we not visit another beach when we are in Sydney?<\/p>\n

Where is Maroubra?<\/h3>\n

Maroubra is located in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney, about 10 km from the Sydney CBD<\/a> area. It only 10 mins from Coogee Beach<\/a>. Coogee is nice to visit especially if you want to do the coastal walk from Bondi and Coogee that last for 2 hours. Coogee Beach is not for surfers because the wave is calm. Bondi has some surfers but it is always crowded with tourists and locals as it is the most famous beach in Australia.\u00a0 Why visit Maroubra Beach?\u00a0 Well, to check out the surfers, there are tons of them and all in black!\u00a0 So cool to watch each experience surfer performed in the stage of Maroubra beach!\u00a0 You love it, they all have great shape from head to toe.<\/p>\n

If you are coming by car, then parking is not as headache as in Bondi<\/a>, (you need to pay too and it is not cheap in Bondi).\u00a0 Maroubra Beach has lots of parking and free of charge.<\/p>\n

Aboriginal Word – “Place of Thunder”<\/h3>\n

Maroubra means “place of thunder” in the Aboriginal word, describing the sound of the surf pounding against the rocks on Maroubra Beach. The beach has a history in relation to a shipwreck and you can read the plaques denoting the wrecks.<\/p>\n

National Surfing Reserves<\/h3>\n

Maroubra Beach is for surfers and for the locals, you don’t find any tourists here. The waves here are consistent for surfers and the best time of the years for waves is autumn. But you still see surfers all year round, even in the winter. Maroubra Beach is one of Australia’s best surfing beaches, recognized in the National Surfing Reserves as a place of intrinsic value.<\/p>\n

Have you heard of Bra Boy?<\/h3>\n

Bra Boy gang are founded and based in Maroubra in the early 1990s, a gang centered on surf culture. The gang has gained notoriety through violence and alleged links to organized crime and some community activism. Have you watched Bra Boys: “Blood Is Thicker than Water”? It is a 2007 Australian Documentary film about a surf gang on Sydney’s Maroubra Beach. The review said it is one of the best-documented film made, it gives a glimpse of the cult of masculinity in a working-class Sydney beach suburb, they called it “brotherhood”.\u00a0 Just wanna tie Bra Boy and Maroubra here.<\/p>\n

If you are not into surfing, then what?<\/h3>\n

Well, there are other things that you can do here. Just to name some, go to the Malabar Headland National Park’s Western Escarpment walking track. The views from the trail of the rugged coastline are simply stunning. If you are lucky, you may see whales jumping out the water. Usually, happen between May and November.<\/p>\n

Barbeque – Get all your goodies from the local supermarket and have a picnic at Arthur Byrne Reserve. It has many grassed areas screened by native trees and shrubs, which make a nice spot for picnic or BBQ.<\/p>\n

Maroubra Beach is one of the best surf spots in Australia Sydney. And surfing is an iconic Australian sport that plays a huge part in Australian culture and Australian identity. You can see that all in Maroubra Beach!<\/p>\n
