{"id":294,"date":"2017-01-14T09:14:25","date_gmt":"2017-01-14T09:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/?p=294"},"modified":"2019-05-05T11:15:13","modified_gmt":"2019-05-05T11:15:13","slug":"thailand-8-days-self-drive-day-4-chiang-rai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/2017\/01\/thailand-8-days-self-drive-day-4-chiang-rai\/","title":{"rendered":"Thailand Self Drive &#8211; Day 4 &#8211; Chiang Rai &#8211; White Temple &#038; Mae Fah Luang University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>8 days Self Drive in Thai\u00a0~ Day 4 ~ Lampang to Chiang Rai ~ 27 Dec 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jungle Breakfast at Lampang River Lodge\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The weather in the morning was very chilling, we had to walk pass a suspension bridge to the restaurant for our breakfast. \u00a0I find the suspension bridge was pretty cool and I have to walk slowly to prevent it from shaking too much. \u00a0Having breakfast beside the riverbank jungle was a wonderful way to start our day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_080918.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-987 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_080918-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We checked out the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/partners\/partnersearch.aspx?cid=1769828&amp;pcs=1&amp;hl=en&amp;hid=996\">Lampang River Lodge Hotel<\/a><\/strong> as usual at around 9 am and headed to Chiang Rai. \u00a0The distance from Lampang to Chiang Rai is about 227km, 3 hours in total.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_085541_001.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-296\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_085541_001-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stopover in Phayao \u00a0&#8211; middle of highway to Chiang Rai<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We stopped at a small town called Phayao to fill in\u00a0gas and as usual we had our coffee at the Amazon Cafe. \u00a0After the coffee break, I took a look at the nearby stall which was selling some local delights. \u00a0I tried some of the bbq pork in the stick but later on I felt uneasy for my stomach. \u00a0I have a very weak stomach. \u00a0Luckily I had some medicine from the first day which I got them from Ayuthaya 7 Eleven stall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_113638e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-298\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_113638e-1024x723.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We rested half an hour in the Amazon cafe then we were on the highway again. \u00a0The road to Chiang Rai was quite wide and smooth but it was also very twisted. \u00a0Still I find it very safe, no holes on the highway and there are always 2 lanes for cars.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_103952.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-297\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_103952-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I saw many stalls opened for business along the highway to Chiang Rai. \u00a0We did not stop by to check what they were selling. \u00a0From afar, I could only guess those were tiny melon. \u00a0I wonder why the melons were so small? \u00a0May be not enough of nutrient to grow bigger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_123229.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-301\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_123229-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stopped by before noon in this place along the highway, I do not know the name of the place, it look like a warehouse. \u00a0We just stopped by because we saw this gigantic &#8220;Incredible Hulk&#8221; statue at the entrance of the showroom. \u00a0Surprisingly the incredible Hulk status is in white color. \u00a0I guess he has not turned on the beast mode which suppose to be green. Throughout my 8 days self drive in Thailand, I saw roosters were used to decorated at the front of the houses and shops. \u00a0This rooster in the picture look super huge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_122718.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-990 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_122718-958x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"624\" \/><\/a><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_122718e.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Inside the warehouse, I found colorful and fancy cars displayed beautifully there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_122806.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-314\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_122806-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Noodle Lunch near white temple\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We arrived Chiang Rai at around 2m plus and had the Thai Wanton noodles 40 bahts per bowl. \u00a0I chose to eat here because the noodle shop is near the White temple. \u00a0Noodles tasted so so, at least it filled my stomach.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_140804.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-302\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_140804-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We actually wanted to visit the white temple after our lunch but the weather was just too hot and we also saw the white temple were very crowded so we changed our first destination to the Thai Singha Beer Park which is only 20 mins drive from the white temple.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Singha Park Chiang Rai<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\">\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_134857.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-317\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_134857-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\">\n<p>Singha Park is owned by Boon Rawd Brewery, the company who produce Singha Beer. \u00a0The park has also been sympathetically landscaped with trails, lakes and meadows all combining to make this an attractive destination for people in Chiang Rai. \u00a0The distinctive golden Singha logo dominates a small mound at the entrance to the park providing Thai visitors with the obligatory selfie opportunity. \u00a0I can only take the picture from afar because the weather was just too hot and too many people crowded around the Golden Singha logo. \u00a0There is an electric tram carries visitors to various parts of the park with stops at the fruit orchards, tea plantations and the petting zoo. \u00a0We wanted to get the tickets for the tram but it was all sold out for the day. \u00a0I thought we could hop on the tram, at least the tram has some shade so we could relax and kill some time before visiting the White temple again in the late afternoon. \u00a0Too bad, no luck to get the tickets. Too many tourists, no more tram seats for the day!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<article class=\"post-15825 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail category-tourist-attractions tag-chiang-rai entry\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>White temple\/Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\"><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_145644.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-988 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_145644-1024x322.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\">\n<p>We had no choice but to visit the White temple next.This bizarre-looking white temple located near the Singha Beer Park, which took us 15 mins to arrive.<\/p>\n<p>Wat Rong Khun is in Thai, better known to foreigners as the White Temple, is a contemporary, unconventional, privately owned buddhist temple in Chiang Rai. \u00a0Wat Rong Khun is a unique temple that stands out through the white color and the use of pieces of glass in the plaster, sparkling in the sun. The white color signifies the purity of the Buddha.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\">\n<p>The time when we reached White temple was around 3pm and this was not the perfect timing because it was just flooded with tourists and too crowded to take any good decent pictures. \u00a0Also, the weather was just unbearable hot.<\/p>\n<p>The below picture were taken under the shade. \u00a0See the people behind of me? \u00a0As you can see, the temple is quite small compared to the other temple in Thailand which has bigger courtyard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\"><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_145211.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-973 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_145211-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"breadcrumb\">\n<p>We did not enter the white temple because it was too crowded at the entrance, and the queue to get the ticket was just too long. \u00a0It was also super busy in this areas, there were many souvenirs shop beside the temple, but they are selling things way more expensive than the stalls in Ayuthaya. \u00a0Parking our car was also another headache thing. \u00a0I heard the best time to visit the white temple is early in the morning before the tour buses carring the tourists started to flood in.<\/p>\n<p>Since we did not enter the white temple, so we drove to check in our hotel. We were staying at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/partners\/partnersearch.aspx?cid=1769828&amp;pcs=1&amp;hid=399168\">Phufa Waree Chiang Rai Resort<\/a><\/strong> for the night. \u00a0It was only half an hour drive from the white temple.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<article class=\"post-15825 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail category-tourist-attractions tag-chiang-rai entry\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Karen long neck village &#8211; we did not go in<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One thing good about this hotel is, it is only 5 mins drive from the Karen Long Neck village. \u00a0There were actually 2 Karen Long Neck village but the google map has brought us to the other Long Neck village which is about 20 mins drive from our hotel.<\/p>\n<p>I took a picture outside of the Karen Long Neck village. It is really located in the middle of paddy fields\/jungle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_164853e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-306\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_164853e-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before we entered the Karen Long Neck village, there were some native selling the souvenirs. \u00a0I saw this little cute girl just came back from school as she was wearing the school uniform. \u00a0She was nice enough to pose a beautiful smile with the exquisite headgear.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_163819.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-305\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_163819-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After we walked pass the souvenir stalls, there was a man standing to ask for entrance fees, 300 baht per person. \u00a0I thought it was a bit expensive and decided not to visit the Long Neck village. \u00a0After all human zoo is kind of mean . I was struggling whether to go or not&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Well, we were staying in Chiang Rai 2 nights so we can always come back again to the Long Neck village if we changed our mind. We did not visit the long neck village on that day.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">The Mae Fah Luang university &#8211; most beautiful University in Thailand<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">The time when we left the Karen long neck village, it was around evening time, we then went to have a look at the University of Chiang Rai, I heard it was\u201c University in the Park\u201d: known as the most beautiful university in Thailand with a commitment to being green and environmentally friendly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Mae Fah Luang university is named in honour of the King\u2019s Mother. \u00a0Below is the status of the King&#8217;s Mother. Local Thai people call her Mae Fah Luang.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_173149e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-309\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_173149e-965x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"620\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Around the university campus I saw three young nursing students waiting at the bus stop. I specially like the bus stop signboard saying: &#8221; A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_171230.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-307\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_171230-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Weather in the evening was so much cooler as compared to the afternoon. \u00a0Strolling\u00a0in the University garden has made me feel all nostalgic. \u00a0It reminded me of my university years in Australia and Japan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_172445.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-308\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_172445-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sun was setting down soon and we hurried to find a restaurant to fill our stomachs before it was too dark.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shabu shubu dinner at Japanese restaurant<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_180848.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-989 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_180848-1024x255.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"145\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today was the day 4 in Thailand, and we thought of having a change in our menu for dinner, so we had Shabu Shabu steamboat in a Japanese restaurant just next to our Hotel, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/partners\/partnersearch.aspx?cid=1769828&amp;pcs=1&amp;hid=399168\">Phufa Waree Chiang Rai Resort<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0It was a buffet which include; slice of pork, chicken mince and vegetable. \u00a0There were also some sushi california rolls and Takoyaki given as side dish. \u00a0I find it reasonable, just 299 Baht per person. \u00a0I ate\u00a0the hot shabu shabu eagerly which burned my tongue.
