We took a meter taxi which is also the easiest means to reach Tiger Hill. There is no metro line to the Tiger Hill but there are few buses to Huqiu Road directly.<\/p>\n<p>During our visit, we saw quite a fair bit of constructions going on and the taxi driver told us the metro line is in the making to connect the outskirt of Suzhou.\u00a0 If you are taking bus, please get your 1 yuan RMB (flat-rate) ready as there is no change given back to you.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31493 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_093153.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"625\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Ticketing<\/h3>\n<p>Everything in China are automated and even for buying tickets to get into attractions sites. However, the self-service machines are usually only used for locals who owned a Chinese ID and a Chinese bank account for the payment. So, foreigners still need to buy from the counter.\u00a0 For Tiger Hill, there is no need to do advance booking.\u00a0 Adults cost 60 yuan ( SGD 12.00) and students cost 30.00 (SGD 6.00).\u00a0 Some sites accept student prices even if you are not local Chinese, just show your kid&#8217;s passport and they will give you a discount.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31524\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_103551.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"647\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Top things to look at in the Tiger Hill<\/h3>\n<p>Tiger Hill is another UNESCO World Heritage site in Suzhou with traditional architecture, tranquil landscapes and several historical sites dating back more than 2,500 years. Some of the highlights are the Tomb of King He Lu, the Sword-Testing Stone\u2014a rock split cleanly into two pieces, supposedly by a legendary sword\u2014and the famously lopsided Yunyan Pagoda, or &#8216;Leaning Tower of China.&#8217; Don&#8217;t forget the Wanjing Villa with potted landscapes and bonsai trees which create the classical feel of Chinese gardens.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31500 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_094057.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Boat Ride<\/h3>\n<p>We first did a boat ride which cost 100 yuan for 4 people in a boat so a person costs about 25 yuan ( SGD 5.00).\u00a0 There is also the horse carriage ride to bring around.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31504 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_094914.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The river is constantly clean up.\u00a0 The staff are picking up the leaves from the river.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31505 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_100257.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The duration of the boat ride is about 10-15 mins, a really short one.\u00a0 Nothing really much to see as compared to our boat ride in <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2019\/11\/top-26-things-to-know-before-you-visit-shanghai-zhujiajiao-water-town-\u6731\u5bb6\u89d2\u6c34\u4e61\/\">Zhujiajiao Shanghai<\/a>.\u00a0 This boat ride will pass over a few bridges and old buildings from the perspective of the water.\u00a0 Not recommended if you have tried other boat rides in Shanghai or Suzhou water villages.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31508 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_101003.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"707\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Sword Testing Stone \u8bd5\u5251\u77f3<\/h3>\n<p>You can see a rock in two pieces that were supposedly cleaved cleanly by a legendary sword of extraordinary sharpness. King He Lu who is in love with collecting rare swords tested the sword upon this stone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31515 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_101620.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Peach Stone \u6843\u77f3<\/h3>\n<p>Other huge stones resemble the shape of the peach.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31516 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_101651.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Small vendors inside Tiger Hill<\/h3>\n<p>There are few vendors inside the Tiger Hill and I have bought this hand made umbrella made from paper and painted with nice drawing, very traditional.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31518 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_101936.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31519 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_102024.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Zhen Niang Tomb<\/h3>\n<p>Zhen Niang was a smart &amp; beautiful lady in Suzhou who is good at dancing, playing chess and painting. She was famous in Suzhou and there is a poem written by Bai Juyi \u767d\u5c45\u6613 dedicated to her.<\/p>\n<p>\u771f\u5a18\u5893\uff0c\u864e\u4e18\u9053\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u4e0d\u8ba4\u771f\u5a18\u955c\u4e2d\u9762\uff0c\u60df\u89c1\u771f\u5a18\u5893\u5934\u8349\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u971c\u6467\u6843\u674e\u98ce\u6298\u83b2\uff0c\u771f\u5a18\u6b7b\u65f6\u72b9\u5c11\u5e74\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u8102\u80a4\u8351\u624b\u4e0d\u7262\u56fa\uff0c\u4e16\u95f4\u5c24\u7269\u96be\u7559\u8fde\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u96be\u7559\u8fde\uff0c\u6613\u9500\u6b47\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u585e\u5317\u82b1\uff0c\u6c5f\u5357\u96ea\u3002<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31520 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_102050.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1365\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Tiger Hill Pagoda \u864e\u4e18\u5854 &#8211; Icon<\/h3>\n<p>You can see the pagoda from far away before entering Tiger Hill complex as it stands on the hill&#8217;s summit. This will be an iconic symbol of the city Suzhou as well as Tiger Hill. If you notice clearly, you will see it is a leaning tower. It was built during the Northern Song Dynasty with a seven-story octagonal tower, following the style of the timber pagodas built during the early Tang Dynasty.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-31527 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_104200.jpg\" alt=\"Tiger Hill Suzhou \u82cf\u5dde\u864e\u4e18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1365\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Sword Pool \u5251\u6c60<\/h3>\n<p>This is another important site &#8211; The Sword Pool, it is small and cliffs on both sides and a stone bridge above it. According to legend, King Helu was buried under Tiger Hill after his death. There are also traditional saying that the funeral was buried in a sword pond and was buried with a bronze sword, hence the name of the pond. Historically recorded that the entrance to the tomb can be seen after the water in the pool was drained. The most important icon is the Tiger Hill\/ Hu Qiu Pagoda and Huqiu Sword Pond. Please pay attention to the Tiger Hill Pagoda as it is slightly leaning to the one side so it is also known as the &#8220;East Leaning Tower of Pisa&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Now that I have seen Huqiu the Tiger Hill in Suzhou, I can see that Dongpo&#8217;s words are true.
