From our hotel, Phufa Waree Chiangrai Resort to Golden triangle took us about 1 hour drive. \u00a0The road to Golden triangle was pretty smooth, not many cars and the roads are wide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <b>Golden Triangle<\/b>\u00a0is in Chiang Rai Province, in the far north of Thailand. The English name comes from the meeting of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. where the Ruak and mighty Mekong rivers join. \u00a0Everyone&#8217;s probably heard here and there about the Golden Triangle. It depends on your expectations,the view from across the rivers is peaceful and you can see the Chinese have built a massive casino on the Laos shoreline. \u00a0The Casino do stands out.<\/p>\n<p>A little background of golden triangle, historically the Golden Triangle has been an area well-known for the growing of opium, there is a opium museum nearby but we did not get in. \u00a0It should be interesting to find out more about Golden triangle\u00a0and the opium history from the museum.<\/p>\n<p>There is a big golden Buddha uphill and from the temple you can have a better view of the Golden Triangle. \u00a0You can see 3 countries Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet together.<\/p>\n<p>We did not\u00a0take a boat down the river\u00a0to cruise around the Mekong river. \u00a0I heard there were also tickets to Laos or Myanmar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_100536.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-993 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_100536-761x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The peaceful Mekong river on the sunny morning. \u00a0In the picture there is a Casino in Laos on the right hand side of the picture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_101512.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-336\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_101512-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I would say Golden Triangle has nothing special but to stand on a hill in the temple and watched 3 countries together as a view was an impressive experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_101224.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-994 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_101224-706x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"847\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many people take pictures from the Golden triangle landmark below, which is just next to the Buddha temple.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_1016090.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1019 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_1016090-505x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"505\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Mae Salong village<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">We left Golden triangle at around 11 am and moved to our second destination of the day &#8211; Mae Salong. \u00a0Although the road is quite scary with lots of sharp curves, it&#8217;s worth a visit. \u00a0The weather was so much cooling in the mountain which for me was so comforting to walk around the Mae Salong village.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_133802.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-347\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_133802-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mae Salong&#8217;s early history centered on the the opium trade of the Golden Triangle. Its recent history was shaped by the 93rd Division of the Chinese Nationalist Army that refused to surrender to Chinese communists after the Nationalist Kuomintang government was routed in 1949. \u00a0As a result, most of the village\u2019s inhabitants today are ethnic Chinese and direct descendants of those KMT soldiers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123603.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1012 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123603-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">That was the reason why we could see a Chinese school and many restaurants selling Yunnan cuisine. \u00a0We took a break from Thai food and had the most famous Yunnan &#8220;Crossing-the-bridge noodles&#8221; 90 bahts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">After our lunch, we walked on the streets which were full of stalls selling souvenirs\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">and little thing. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Some bigger shops were selling<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">\u00a0oolong tea and mushrooms which is now Mae Salong&#8217;s main product.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123356.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-999 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123356-1024x727.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"415\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We spotted some sea of mist while strolling on the street, I think the temperature was about 22 &#8211; 25 c, a very comforting climate to walk around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_124357.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-344\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_124357-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This little girl dressed in traditional Thai hill tribe costume, selling handmade hairbands.<\/p>\n<p>An old lady in hill tribe clothing also walked around and asking tourists to buy some handmade souvenirs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123438.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1000 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123438-766x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"781\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123035.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-997 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123035-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The hill tribe ladies in their traditional costume having lunch. \u00a0Mae Salong is one of those villages worth visiting just for the fresh air and views<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123111.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-998 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_123111-1024x596.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"340\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;DOI&#8221; is the Thai word for mountain or hill. \u00a0When we drove on the highway, the highway signboard indicated &#8220;Doi&#8221; Mae Salong. The Doi Mae Salong is a mountain of 1200m high, the mountain road was not bumpy and the road is very smooth, except the road twists and turns with very steep and sharp turns but still I find it manageable, just need to slow down the speed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Coffee Break at Flower Hill Resort in Mae Salong<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">We left the busy streets and drove to the famous Flower Hill resort next and had our coffee break and some photos session. \u00a0The resort has beautiful views of the valley, tea plantation and mountains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_131426e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1022 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_131426e-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We bought some dried mangoes from the souvenir shop in the resort and it\u00a0tasted awesome, 160 bahts. \u00a0I find it so much cheaper compared to Chiang Mai. \u00a0I regretted not getting more packets there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_131122.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1002 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_131122-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Karen Long Neck village<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">We left Doi Mae Salong at around 2pm and we decided to visit Karen long neck village again. \u00a0This time we drove to another Karen Long Neck village which was only 5 mins drive from the hotel we checked out this morning. \u00a0We reached Karen long neck village at around 3pm. \u00a0We paid 300 baht per person and was given a directory how to walk around the village. \u00a0There were 5 tribe in total in this tiny village.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Karen Long Neck Tribe &#8211; today&#8217;s highlight<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_151647.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1007 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_151647-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the late 1980s and early 1990s due to conflict with the military regime in Myanmar, many Kayan tribes fled to the Thai border area.<span style=\"font-size: 10px; line-height: 10px;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Among the refugee camps set up there was a Long Neck section, which became a tourist site, self-sufficient on tourist revenue and not needing financial assistance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_153531.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1008 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_153531-736x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"813\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The women wearing these coils are known as &#8220;giraffe women&#8221; to tourists. \u00a0They like to wear\u00a0neck rings, brass coils that are placed around the neck, appearing to lengthen it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_153848.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-353\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_153848-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Girls first start to wear coil rings when they are around 5 years old. \u00a0Over the years, the coil is replaced by a longer one and more turns are added. The weight of the brass pushes the collar bone down and compresses the rib cage. The neck itself is not lengthened; the appearance of a stretched neck is created by the deformation of the clavicle.<\/p>\n<p>Many ideas regarding why the coils are worn have been suggested. \u00a0One of the belief suggest the coils might be meant to protect from tiger bites in the jungles.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">At first I really felt bad while walking in these villages of the long neck women, but then after interacting with them and buying few things with them, I thought it was a nice experience seeing their culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Big Ear Holes Tribe<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Among the 5 tribes, one of it was Big Ear Holes Tribe. \u00a0This little girl in the below picture was\u00a0from the Big ear hole tribe. \u00a0She has big ear holes! \u00a0Nowadays big ear holes is a fashion thing and I can see many youngsters having big years holes. \u00a0She was weaving the scarf while we passed by.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_153602.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-351\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_153602-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We left Karen Long neck village at around 4pm and drove to Singha beer park again to take some photos. \u00a0Yesterday\u00a0was not a good day for photo session as the weather was extremely hot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_171244.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1011 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_171244-578x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"578\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It took us about half an hour to reach Singha Beer Park and the weather was so much cooling down as compared to yesterday. \u00a0The time we arrived was about 5pm.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Singha Beer Park <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Until recently Singha was the best selling beer in Thailand, but is now challenged by Beer Chang. \u00a0Singha beer has a more bitter taste than Chang beer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_134857.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-317\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161227_134857-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Never had we seen such beautiful blue skies with amazingly beautiful scenery. The garden was spotlessly maintained.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_170117.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1016 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_170117-779x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The park is very big and not recommended to walk. \u00a0There is a place for bicycle rentals. \u00a0Beware of sunburn even in winter time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_170319.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1021 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161228_170319-1024x395.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stayed\u00a0at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/partners\/partnersearch.aspx?cid=1769828&amp;pcs=1&amp;hid=70264\">Laluna Hotel &amp; Resort<\/a><\/strong> Chiang Rai which has a beautiful lily garden.
