{"id":3934,"date":"2017-03-22T22:43:22","date_gmt":"2017-03-22T22:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/?p=3934"},"modified":"2019-01-09T13:50:47","modified_gmt":"2019-01-09T13:50:47","slug":"eastern-europe-day-11-kehlsteinhaus-eagle-nest-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/2017\/03\/eastern-europe-day-11-kehlsteinhaus-eagle-nest-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Eastern Europe Day 11 &#8211; Kehlsteinhaus, Eagle Nest Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Holiday Home for Hilter<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We only have half a day to play with, so we decided to explore Eagle Nest in\u00a0Obersalzberg near the town of <a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.klook.com\/jump\/activity\/3684-berchtesgaden-and-eagles-nest-munich\/?adid=11883&amp;af_wid=1904\">Berchtesgaden<\/a> in Germany. \u00a0It took roughly about 40 mins to 1 hour to reach Eagle Nest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.klook.com\/jump\/activity\/3684-berchtesgaden-and-eagles-nest-munich\/?adid=11883&amp;af_wid=1904\">Eagle Nest<\/a> was built as a vacation home for Adolf Hitler for his 50th birthday present but Hitler only visited the place 14 times.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145220.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3935\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145220-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145220.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145220-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145220-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are special red buses to go up Eagle Nest. Normal buses or cars are not allowed to drive in. The 6 km mountain road were built in only 13 months to complete and it was extremely steep. \u00a0It was very fogy early in the morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145228.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3936\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145228-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145228.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145228-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145228-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bavarian Alps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hitler&#8217;s Eagles Nest, Germany, sits on a mountain peak high above Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145347.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3937\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145347-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145347.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145347-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_145347-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tunnel leads to the elevator up <a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.klook.com\/jump\/activity\/3684-berchtesgaden-and-eagles-nest-munich\/?adid=11883&amp;af_wid=1904\">Eagle Nest<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is a 124 m long tunnel for you to walk pass before reaching the elevator to reach up the mountain peak of Eagle Nest. \u00a0It was quite scary to walk pass the tunnel, the lights was dim. \u00a0While walking through the tunnel, I had an uneasy feeling thinking of the Schindler\u2019s List movie we just watched few days ago in the coach.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_162017.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3945\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_162017-1024x984.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"504\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brass Elevator<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The elevator\u00a0that bring Hitler up the mountain top of Eagle nest was quite impressive. \u00a0When you entered, the whole elevator is covered with luxurious brass. The elevator also has a small clock and small round mirrors. \u00a0 It looks very grand. \u00a0However it has been told that Hitler did not trust the elevator and dislike using it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3940\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_152830-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_152830.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_152830-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20150623_152830-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Restaurant with 360 degree of Alpine view<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kehlsteinhaus &#8211;
