{"id":4140,"date":"2017-03-27T15:50:09","date_gmt":"2017-03-27T15:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/?p=4140"},"modified":"2019-12-08T12:34:56","modified_gmt":"2019-12-08T12:34:56","slug":"part-2-exploring-the-ancient-and-modern-side-of-shangai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/2017\/03\/part-2-exploring-the-ancient-and-modern-side-of-shangai\/","title":{"rendered":"Part 2 -Exploring the ancient and modern side of Shangai in a day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hutong\/\u80e1\u540c in Shanghai<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am more of a country person so Hutong always interests me and I wanted to find out more in the Shanghai Hutong. \u00a0I was hoping to capture the scene of Shanghai women wearing the qipao walking in the hutong of old Shanghai.<\/p>\n<p>Hutong or Longtang in Shanghai is narrow streets or alleys with old buildings from ancient times. \u00a0Since I could not find any Qipao woman, (I actually knew the chances are slim) hence I gave up and navigate to go to Yuyuan. The garden is famous for a number of architectural marvels. \u00a0I was standing in front of a huge old door which does not open anymore.<a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20170302_100007.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20170302_101406.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3993\" peaceful and the garden is big about 2 hectares. \u00a0Obviously I need to take a rest and get some sunshine while enjoying the craving on the wooden doors.<\/p>\n<p><a site for kinds of cultural and recreational activities in Shanghai in the past and at present. \u00a0It is still having a various exhibitions of flowers, calligraphy, painting, unusual stones, and other recreation. \u00a0While I was there, I notice there is a calligraphy exhibition going on.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the two windows in the below picture, there are in a different patterns.<\/p>\n<p><a Gate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Walking in this tranquil garden makes a great getaway from the busy city of Shanghai.\u00a0 The below picture is the round door that can be found in most classical Chinese gardens, also known as &#8216;moon gate&#8217;. \u00a0The purpose of these gates is to serve as a very inviting entrance into gardens of the rich upper class in China.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20170302_100800.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large spectator&#8217;s seats with wooden chairs. \u00a0I saw a few workers were doing the cleaning and wiping. \u00a0This place is ancient-looking but still well maintained. \u00a0I wonder if this stage is \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chenghuangmiao\/\u57ce\u968d\u5e99 &#8211; City God Temple of Shanghai<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chenghuangmiao\/<strong>\u57ce\u968d\u5e99<\/strong>\u00a0is used as the name of the commercial district near the temple. \u00a0I had a hard time finding the temple. \u00a0Most people who came here did not really bother to go visit the temple, it is more of visiting the commercial district around\u00a0Chenghuangmiao.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20170302_095304.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\"
