The pool is great as well. I had a short rest beside the pool after the morning breakfast.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Temples and things to do today\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Tha Phae Gate<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wat Pan Tao -temple<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Three Kings Monument<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan &#8211; temple<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wat Thung Yu &#8211; temple<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wat Phra Singh<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Tuk tuk Ride to Chiang Mai city<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_085643.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1095 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_085643-908x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"659\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I took a tuk tuk to drive me to town, just 5 min and it cost 100 baht. \u00a0Tuk tuk also called as sam lor&#8217; (three-wheeled), is Thailand&#8217;s iconic transport vehicle used to be everyone&#8217;s favorite way of getting around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_085923e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-518\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_085923e-656x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"912\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I asked Tuk tuk to stop me at The Phae Gate, which was the east gate of Chiangmai. \u00a0When I reached there in the early morning I saw many birds were waiting for the tourists to feed them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tha Phae Gate<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tha Phae Gate is the east entrance to the old city district. It is part of the wall that surrounded the city at its founding. \u00a0Their purpose was to protect the city from Burmese invasion. They also symbolized the seas and mountains of Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, it was the main gate through which monks, traders, and diplomats want to enter Chiang Mai.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_090418.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1096 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_090418-469x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"469\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Thai Durian<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I walked past a durian stall on the roadside. \u00a0Durian season in Thailand is from around April through August but now it was in the month of December and yet durians were still available. \u00a0No wonder the\u00a0price for the durian was so expensive! \u00a0 A quarter of the durian cost about 1500 baht.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_091633.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-492\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_091633-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The morning walking market not only offers a great opportunity to see the mostly handmade products of the local vendors, but also a chance to enjoy authentic Thai dishes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_091350.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1102 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_091350-742x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"806\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Wat Phan Tao &#8211; temple with wooden structure and Bamboo<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">There are many temples in Chiang Mai city, \u00a0the first temple I visited was Wat Phan Tao, one of the older temples of Chiang Mai found in the old walled center of the city. The first structures were likely built towards the end of the 14<\/span><sup>th<\/sup><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">century.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wat Phan Tao, meaning \u201ctemple of a thousand kilns\u201d, you can see wooden building constructed from teak panels set on a stone base. It is one of the few remaining all wooden structures of its sort in Chiang Mai. \u00a0I saw some young monks chatting in the courtyard and it make a very nice picture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_092108.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1099 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_092108-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was really enjoying the lanna temple style which was hard to find these day. \u00a0The wooden structure, the wide use of bamboo in the grounds, the little pond and the umbrellas was very unique. \u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">It was a peaceful and calm experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_092515.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-494\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_092515-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Three Kings Monument <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">I saw the three cool looking status\u00a0not far from the Wat Phan Tao temple, its the Three King monument. \u00a0According to legend, the three worked together to lay out the city of Chiang Mai. The sculpture has become something of an iconic image representing Chiang Mai.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Standing in front of the Chiang Mai City Art and Cultural Centre, Three Kings Monument was erected to immortalize the 3 Kings who together were responsible for the founding of Chiang Mai in 1296.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_094431.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-495\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_094431-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I passed by some nice architecture building in the Ching Mai city and this one look like a museum to me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_094639.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-496\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_094639-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Wat Chedi Luang &#8211; temple ruin with high archaeological value &#8211; highlight<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Next I arrived at\u00a0Wat Chedi Luang, there was an entrance fees but it was worth to get it.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p class=\"partial_entry\"><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_102201.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1124 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_102201-1024x1011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This was possibly the largest structure in ancient Chiang Mai, but the top was destroyed by either a 16th-century earthquake or by cannon fire during the recapture of Chiang Mai from the Burmese in 1775.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_100757.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1107 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_100757-842x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"710\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was given a black sarong to cover my body.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_100523.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1110 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_100523-1024x573.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"327\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I like this temple because of it is so monumental. \u00a0I felt more like I was at a ruin than\u00a0the classical Thai temple. There were many chairs in front of the monument because it was the last day of the year, 31 Dec. Local Thais were coming\u00a0by at night to do their new year prayers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p class=\"partial_entry\">I walked around the whole area and had a good time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_100358.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1106 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_100358-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A must see temple as I think it is the soul of Chiangmai and is a ruin with high archaeological value.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_095048.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1115 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_095048-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are many temples in Chiang Mai but Wat Chedi Luang is definitely the cream of the crop.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Wat Thung Yu &#8211; temple<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Next, I stopped a little while at another temple, called Wat Thung Yu. \u00a0This is a nice temple but without any major standout features. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_091137.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1103 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_091137-637x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"939\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Wat Phra Singh\u00a0-temple with many gold and the\u00a0golden stupa &#8211; highlight<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wat Phra Singh or (temple of lion Buddha )is an important Buddhist temple in Chiangmai. \u00a0I know I have visited many temples this morning, this one I wouldn&#8217;t want to miss too.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_094700.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-497\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_094700-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_112227.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1101 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_112227-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was also one of the popular temples among the local and foreign tourists, an early visit was always good to avoid the heat and the big crowd. \u00a0This temple has many gold and the\u00a0golden stupa behind me was\u00a0stunningly beautiful.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>walking on the old town of Chiang Mai\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_124329.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1117 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_124329-731x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"818\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chicken Rice for Lunch<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After all the temples visiting, I walked on the old town Chiang Mai to get some lunch. \u00a0I saw many local Thais queuing at a chicken rice stall so I decided to give it a try as well. \u00a0There was a special sauce or gravy for you to dip with the chicken. It was actually tasted like the Hainanese chicken rice, except there was this extra special gravy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_114023.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1100 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_114023-1024x758.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"432\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Walking back to Mae Ping Imperial Hotel<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After my lunch, I walked back to the hotel, it only took me about 20 -30 mins.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_125259.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1119 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_125259-532x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I took some pictures of the old Thai building on my way back to my hotel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_125608.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1120 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_125608-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To Chiang Mai Airport &#8211; back home<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My flight back home was 4pm so I left the hotel at around 1pm. \u00a0I wanted to be earlier because the petrol in the rental car needed to be full when it is returned in the Chiang Mai airport.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_132828.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1104 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_132828-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before I arrived at the airport, there was a gas station 5 mins away with Amazon cafe and 7\u00a0Eleven. \u00a0This time I did not order any coffee from the Amazon Cafe. \u00a0I filled the gas to full tank and drive to the airport. \u00a0I was searching the car rental counter in the International Airport but only realized later it was actually located in the domestic Airport.<\/p>\n<p>We picked up car rental at the Bangkok Airport and returning the car rental in Chiang Mai Airport and flew back home from Chiang Mai Airport.<\/p>\n<p>That marked the end of my Thailand 8 days Self drive from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_181900.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-517\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161231_181900-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Day 8 \u00a0&#8211;
