Do not assume all car rental has GPS. \u00a0Some do not have GPS, I learnt my lesson in self drive in Thailand. \u00a0I booked the car rental online and remembered clearly I ticked the GPS box but since there is no &#8220;confirmation&#8221; of GPS, they could not provide me the GPS and also there weren&#8217;t any left.<\/p>\n<p>Driver seat is at the left hand side so we needed some time to get familiarize with the car. We are very much used to driver seat on the right. \u00a0We were actually quite nervous at first but we get use to it after driving for half of the day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_165127e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1156 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_165127e-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Taoyuan to Keelung highway<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Airport to Keelung city is only 66.9km, I saw Taipei city not far away from the right hand side on the highway. \u00a0I also\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">noticed a super tall landmark\u00a0and realized it should be Taipei 101, tallest building in 2004. \u00a0I was glad we did not drive into Taipei because it would be too much traffic to self drive in Taipei city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_161905f.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-674\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_161905f-1024x285.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We arrived at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/partners\/partnersearch.aspx?cid=1769828&amp;pcs=1&amp;hid=663\"><b>Evergreen Laurel Hotel<\/b>\u00a0<b>Keelung <\/b><\/a>at around 5pm. \u00a0We parked our rental car at the underground carpark of the hotel. \u00a0The hotel car park is very narrow and\u00a0small, just like in Japan. You need to have a very good parking skill.<\/p>\n<p>We choose <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/partners\/partnersearch.aspx?cid=1769828&amp;pcs=1&amp;hid=663\">Evergreen Laurel Hotel Keelung<\/a><\/strong> because this is one of the decent hotel in Keelung city. It is\u00a0easy to recognize because of it tall \u00a0and outstanding green painted building which is located not far after we exit the Taiwan Highway 1.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_165132e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-681\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_165132e-1024x630.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"359\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We unloaded our luggages at basement car park and check in the hotel room at the lobby.<\/p>\n<p>The hotel room was very clean and comfortable. \u00a0We rested for half an hour and immediately go check out the hotel facilities. \u00a0It has a mid size indoor swimming pool, sauna room, a yoga room and a well equipped gym.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_170736e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-683\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_170736e-657x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"910\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our room is on the high floor so we could enjoy a nice view of Keelung Harbor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_170655.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-682\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_170655-1024x287.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The hotel is also close to Keelung train station and the night market. \u00a0I was eager to explore the night market nearby, only 10-15 mins walk from our hotel.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_171135e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-684\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_171135e-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The hotel look a bit old but it is well maintained, also considered as one of the best in Keelung as there are not many available.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\"><strong>Miaokou night market\/<span class=\"bstooltip\" title=\"\" data-toggle=\"tooltip\" data-placement=\"auto top\" data-original-title=\"Mi\u00e0ok\u01d2u Y\u00e8sh\u00ec\">\u5edf\u53e3\u591c\u5e02<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">Most people know the night market as Keelung night market but the actual name is<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.625;\"> Miaokou night market\/<span class=\"bstooltip\" title=\"\" data-toggle=\"tooltip\" data-placement=\"auto top\" data-original-title=\"Mi\u00e0ok\u01d2u Y\u00e8sh\u00ec\">\u5edf\u53e3\u591c\u5e02,<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">\u00a0literary translation from chinese is &#8220;entrance of the temple&#8221;. \u00a0The night market is famous throughout Taiwan for its large selection of food.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_172546e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-686\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_172546e-644x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"929\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Keelung<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Keelung is also known as rainy Port for its frequent rain and maritime role, the city is Taiwan&#8217;s second largest seaport (after Kaohsiung). \u00a0We were actually very lucky to be able to enjoy the beautiful panoramic harbor view from our hotel room.<\/p>\n<p>There is a big sign of &#8220;Keelung&#8221; behind me in this picture, taken outside the hotel. Keelung is situated at the northern part of Taiwan. Keelung also known as Jilong, the chinese hanyi romanization meaning &#8220;rooster cage&#8221; in Chinese.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_171353e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-592\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_171353e-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As usual the night market was filled with people, mostly local tourists. \u00a0It does not have much bbq or grills or fried stuffs like other night markets which you can grab and go. It mainly have stalls which you can sit by the sides to have mee sua, mee fen (vermicelli), noodles, rice, soup. \u00a0I wanted to try out the famous Taiwanese mee sua but the queue was just too long so I give it a miss.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dinner at Taiwanese Western Fusion restaurant<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.625;\">We ended up having our dinner at a Western Taiwanese fusion restaurant. \u00a0The food we had were quite interesting. \u00a0The corn soup was nothing special, it tasted\u00a0like a normal corn soup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_180807e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-687\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_180807e-1024x654.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"373\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I find the Green tea paella rice very unique, I believe the restaurant used some mint and some lei cha\/\u64c2\u8336 to mix with the paella rice. \u00a0It turned out to be very delicious except the look was a bit awkward.<\/p>\n<p>Hakka people form the second largest ethnic group in Taiwan, no wonder Lei Cha ingredient is used in this restaurant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_182023e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-688\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_182023e-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_182057e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-689\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_182057e-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The spaghetti was also top up with\u00a0the green tea\/lei cha sauce and it also tasted wonderful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_182105e.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-690\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/20161016_182105e-1024x618.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After dinner we rushed back to hotel as it began to drizzle.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gym Facilities in hotel<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hotel gym staffs were very helpful and friendly, they immediately handed me with clean white tower the moment I walked in the gym. \u00a0My day ended well with a good workout in the hotel.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 1.625;\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/keelung-gym-2.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1160\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/keelung-gym-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/keelung-gym-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1159 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/keelung-gym-1-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"730\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Taiwan Self Drive 8 days round the island &#8211;
