{"id":8214,"date":"2017-07-06T22:45:05","date_gmt":"2017-07-06T22:45:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/?p=8214"},"modified":"2017-07-08T10:08:42","modified_gmt":"2017-07-08T10:08:42","slug":"singapore-discover-15-sites-in-telok-ayer-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/2017\/07\/singapore-discover-15-sites-in-telok-ayer-street\/","title":{"rendered":"Singapore : Discover 15 Sites in Telok Ayer Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Discover Thing to do in Telok Ayer Street Singapore<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When I was exploring Telok Ayer Street last Sunday, I realized there are many important temples and Clan Associations located here. \u00a0Find out why?<\/p>\n<p>First, let&#8217;s translate the Malay name into English, since I know Malay so this part is not hard.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Telok -&gt; Bay<\/li>\n<li>Ayer -&gt; water \u00a0 \u00a0 ==&gt;The meaning is &#8220;Water Bay&#8221; in English!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Telok Ayer Street used to face the original seafront and served as docking bay for the boats and sampans of early immigrants. \u00a0 Many then built the temples to worship their own god for safe sailing and to protect their future lives in Singapore. \u00a0This also led to concentration of Chinese Clan associations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Yueh Hai Ching Temple\/\u7ca4\u6d77\u6e05\u5e99<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170702_102842W.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8217 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkerten.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170702_102842W-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Telok and first built in 1820 with very basic building materials, such as simple woods and the rooftop is just attap by the\u00a0Teochew Chinese immigrants.<\/p>\n<p><a 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will notice the rooftop of this temple is unique as it\u00a0is decorated with detailed ceramic figurines. \u00a0Don&#8217;t forget to look up to search for those cute figurines on the top of the roof. \u00a0There is another more important thing about this temple, it is also known as &#8220;Love Temple&#8221;. \u00a0If you need to find a girl friend or boy friend, future husband or future wife, come to pray to this temple as the matchmaker &#8220;Yue Lao&#8221; will bring you luck to meet your other half. \u00a0Some shortcut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amoy Hotel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Amoy Hotel has great location for tourist as it is located between Chinatown, 5 mins walks and the CBD 10 mins by cab, inside Far East Square, on top of the Fuk Tai Chi Museum. \u00a0Foreign tourists would love the setting of this boutique hotel, as you will walk pass the Fuk Tai Chi Museum before coming to the front desk reception of the Hotel. \u00a0So you would have the feeling as if you are staying in one of those old houses in the early 19 th century.<\/p>\n<p><a first started as a temple in 1881 but then turned into a clan association, aiming to help new Hakka immigrants to settle down in Singapore. \u00a0Even now, the temple is still holdings gatherings and closed on the Sunday when I was there but you can still see many old stuff locked and packed outside the shop, some cooking pots and baskets are hanging on top of the ceiling! \u00a0Beware and I hope those pots and baskets won&#8217;t fall on your head. \u00a0Yes, it is quite interesting to see old collectible shop like this these days.<\/p>\n<p><a immigrants statue were placed at the park. \u00a0But if you are going to visit Thian Hock Kheng Temple, you can just stroll in to have a quick look.<\/p>\n<p><a
