USA – California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea – Hotel Review

USA – California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea – Hotel Review

USA - California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea - Hotel Review

Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea is a little out-of-town, about 4.1 miles from Carmel By the Sea. We stopped over at Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea after visiting Carmel beach. If you are driving, there is no problem at all.

The structure is more like a motel setting which has two storey. The front lobby is at the entrance, a separate cute building where you also have your breakfast in the morning.

Front Lobby

Free parking is available at the door, pretty convenient but there is no lift to go up the second floor.  So if you are having big suitcases, you may need to ask for room in the first floor when you do your booking. I asked for room in the first floor when I check in but it was too late as they have already prepare room for me in the second floor so no choice, I have to move all my big suitcase up by walking the stairs.  Quite a big task as I have 20kg x2 .

I suggest you to request to stay at first floor when you do booking if you know you will have big suitcases like me.  If you are having light luggage, there is no issue.  Loading and unloading is pretty convenient as your car is just next to the door.

The hotel facilities is very basic, only a  tiny pool located near the front lobby.

Rooms in second floor.

Hotel Room Review

The room is very small for American Standard but still a lot bigger than hotel room in Japan.

USA - California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea - Hotel Review

All the basic things such as flat screen TV, fridge, microwave oven and coffee maker are there for guests to use.

Iron and iron board are located inside the buili-in wardrobe.

2 double beds with clean bed sheets can sleep up to 4 pax.  We booked for 3 pax sharing. Room is air-condition and  adjustable according to your need.  Floor is also carpeted.

Toilet Review

Toilet is pretty simple and narrow but come with all necessity, such as shower gel, shampoo and lotion.  Expect no bathtub but only shower with hot and cold running water.  You can also open the window if you feel too stuffy and want some fresh air to come in.

Breakfast Review

Comfort Inn Monterey by the Sea provide complimentary breakfast for their guests.  Usual American breakfast is served, such as pancake, bread, muffin, cereal, eggs, ham and sausages.  Fresh milk, juices and tea and coffee too are available for their beverages.  Breakfast area is located at the front lobby, you can choose to stay at the alfresco dining outside.

If you wonder where to have you dinner after a long day, you may want to try the Vietnamese restaurant next door, just one min walk from the hotel.  The hotel is called – ChopstiX

Chopstix Vietnamese Restaurant Review

After a long day from 17-Miles and Carmel By The Sea, we decided just have our dinner at the next door.  We love Vietnamese food a lot and glad there is one just next to our hotel.

USA - California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea - Hotel Review

We went before 6 pm but it was already almost full.  There are also tables outside the restaurants but many choose to dine in because it was winter when we were there.

USA - California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea - Hotel Review

ChopstiX is serving authentic Vietnamese food, in fact most Vietnamese restaurant in California serve great Vietnamese food.  Love my Vietnamese food experience in US so far.  Even in Las Vegas, Nevada, we too have tasted good Vietnamese food.

USA - California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea - Hotel Review

We ordered two bowls of noodle and one Vietnamese lemongrass chicken wings for three pax.

USA - California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea - Hotel Review

We ordered beef pho noodles and Bun Bo Hue.  Bun Bo Hue is a little spicy and the noodles also look different from pho noodles.  If you are tired of Beef Pho noodles and want something different, go try Bun Bo Hue and I am sure you will love it, just like I do.  My first time to try Bun Bo Hue here and I am glad to have found this hidden gem.

USA - California : Comfort Inn Monterey By The Sea - Hotel Review

Notice the noodle for Bun Bo Hue is different from Pho noodle.

Final Thoughts :

Comfort Inn Monterey by the Sea is an inexpensive stay, about 3 stars.  Expect nothing luxury but good enough for comfortable one night stay with free parking & complimentary breakfast.  It has all the basic necessity a traveller needs.  However there is few downside, the bathroom is a bit small, it is still work well for me as I am quite petite but not sure if a 1.8 m foot tall guy would like the bathroom here.

Another thing worth mention is there is no lift up to second floor, so if you have big suitcase, be prepared to carry up by walking up the stairs.  You can request for first floor when you do the booking but don’t wait till when you have checked in, that is too late because the staff has already pre-prepared your room.

The next door Vietnamese restaurant – ChopstiX is worth to go if you are too tired to go somewhere else.  Just one mins walk from the hotel, you get to enjoy cheap and delicious food.

Did you just mention by the sea? That is enough for me to stay in there. I liked the amenities they are providing there. You have penned it down well.

The food looks delicious. You are brave to carry your suitcases to second floor.

kumamonjeng July 3, 2018 - 12:00 am

Dear Fauzia,
Thanks for your lovely comment. Yes, carrying big suitcases up to second floor can hurt our back, which is quite dangerous. So, do make sure to ask for room in the ground floor when booking online if you know you will have big suitcase. I asked for ground floor when I check in the hotel but it was too late to do so because the room is already prepared for me in second floor. This is one issue to watch out.

This looks like a really ideal place to stay, it has everything one would need. I love the motel feel to it too, it looks really lovely.

Dear Elizabeth,
The look of the hotel very much like motel feel and even the facilities are very basic. The one thing I like is how convenient the hotel parking is, just right at the doorway.

The hotel seems real basic and motel-ish but the location near the sea and the fact that it looks clean is worth it! Also, the restaurant food photos looked like it tasted amazing!

Dear Ashley,
Agree with you the hotel is so “motel-ish”, offer basic thing for travelers. Do not expect too much but the beds and room is clean and comfortable.

Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. I am pretty terrified of staying in a hotel where someone can just walk up to my room door off the street. The Pho looks amazing!

kumamonjeng July 3, 2018 - 8:06 am

Dear Kesha,
Thanks for your comment. The pho restaurant is just one min walk from the hotel. If offer good Vietnamese food and very affordable price.
