Kluang 2 day 1 Night Food trail – 11 Places

If you’re looking for a quick and affordable getaway, why not spend 2 days 1 night in Kluang?

I left Singapore as early as 5.30 am via the Woodlands link, and it only took me about an hour to clear customs. By 7 am I was already in Malaysia, and the drive to Kluang (without using the highway) took less than 2 hours. I arrived around 8.30 am, just in time for breakfast at:

Kluang 2 day 1 Night Food trail - 11 Places

1.Wan Ti Kluang – 皇帝面

No. 10, Jalan Intan 2/2,
Taman Intan, 86000 Kluang,
Johor, Malaysia

This spot is famous for its wanton noodles with char siew. The noodles are homemade, springy, and definitely the highlight here. Prices are also very reasonable —

  • Wanton noodles at RM6.50
  • coffee at RM2.20

If you’re still a little hungry, just next door is a bao shop:

2.居銮大洋园芙蓉烧包 Kedai Makan Desaru

11, Jalan Intan 2/2, Taman Intan, 86000 Kluang,
Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysia

They make everything fresh on the spot, so you’ll get piping hot baos straight from the oven. Their Portuguese tarts and egg tarts are average, but the shao pao is worth a try — warm, flaky, and fresh.

  • Shao Pao is RM3
  • Portuguese Tart RM3.30

Next, we visited UK Farm

UK Farm Sdn. Bhd. (UK Farm Agro Resort)

Plot 8, Projek Pertanian Moden Kluang,
KM 13, Jalan Batu Pahat,
86000 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

UK Farm in Kluang is the largest goat and sheep farm in Johor, operating as both a working farm and an agro-resort. Visitors can join guided tours to explore the animal pens, learn how goat’s milk is produced, and even try feeding the goats and sheep. The farm also has a mini zoo, ostrich and deer enclosures, a fruit orchard, a mushroom farm, and a replica Jakun village that offers a glimpse into the local indigenous culture. It’s a family-friendly spot that combines learning, nature, and a relaxing countryside vibe.

Entrance Fee: RM35 per person

The admission includes a guided tour lasting under 2 hours. It’s worth the visit, especially since most of the animal feeding areas—deer, sheep, chickens, birds, porcupines, turtles, and cows—are shaded, so you won’t feel too hot. Along the way, you’ll also get free tastings of fresh goat’s milk and yogurt. One of the highlights is feeding baby sheep with milk bottles, which is included in the ticket price.

Towards the end of the tour, you’ll pass by small plantations featuring plants such as gac fruit, passion fruit, and even a lavender garden. At this stop, you can purchase refreshing drinks like:

  • Gac fruit juice – RM8
  • Passion fruit juice – RM10
  • Coconut – RM5

After that, the farm bus will take you back to the main entrance.  Outside farm, there are lot of parking free of charge.

3. Yean Kee Beef Noodles (元记牛肉麵 / 牛肉濑粉)

4, Jalan Murni 1, Taman Murni, 86000 Kluang, Johor

If you’re in Kluang, Yean Kee Beef Noodles is a must-try. This long-standing shop is famous for its lai fun (rice noodles), which are made fresh in-house. The noodles are smooth and slightly chewy, pairing perfectly with their rich beef toppings—whether you choose tender slices of beef, tripe, tendon, or a full mixed bowl.

You can order the noodles dry, served with Yean Kee’s signature dark, savoury sauce, or in soup for a comforting option. They also serve beef rendang and beef ball noodles if you want to try something different.

Mixed bowl beef lai fun – RM12
Soya bean with cincau – RM5.50

Parking is easy as you can leave your car right outside the restaurant.

After lunch, around 12 pm, and since the hotel check-in wasn’t until 2 pm, we decided to make a quick stop at one of Kluang’s famous biscuit shops specializing in Shanghai-style mooncakes. Before leaving Yean Kee Beef Noodles, I asked the lady boss which shop the locals preferred, since several places make similar mooncakes. She recommended You Kang Moon Cake (游港上海月饼).

I bought a box of 4 mooncakes, featuring different flavors: pandan lotus, white lotus, lotus, and red bean. The price was around RM55–56 per box, depending on whether it included single or double egg yolks.

I tried their mooncakes immediately. The lotus and red bean were exceptional—the egg yolk blended perfectly with the filling, not too sweet, and the Shanghai-style crust was soft and flavorful. I even ate an entire mooncake that day, which is a personal record—usually, I only manage a quarter! Half lotus, half red bean, and it was heavenly.

4. You Kang Moon Cake (游港上海月饼)

  • 91, Jalan Lim Swee Sim, Kluang Baru, 86000 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

If you have time, Yuen Fatt Biscuit (源发饼家) is also nearby and within walking distance, so you can easily visit both shops.

5. Yuen Fatt Biscuit (源发饼家)

  • 39, Jalan Haji Manap Nordin, Taman Kluang Baru, 86000 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

Famous for its rat mooncake.

Where to stay in Kluang? Prime City Hotel Kluang

  • Prime City Hotel – Kluang
    No. 20, Jalan Bakawali,
    Kluang City Center,
    86000 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

Kluang 2 day 1 Night Food trail - 11 Places

he hotel provides free parking, but you’ll need to place a RM50 deposit upon check-in (keep the receipt, as they’ll refund you when you check out). Parking is at Level 4, and it’s a shared car park with the neighboring Kluang Riverview Hotel.

Our room was spacious and comfortable, with views overlooking Kluang city and the river. On Level 6, there’s a swimming pool and the restaurant where breakfast is served. The location is very convenient too — just a short walk from Kluang city center.

We didn’t book the hotel breakfast, as our plan was to explore more of the local food options around town instead.

Nearby there are some other hotels near the city center of Kluang such as :

Anika Hotel Kluang

  • Jalan Dato Rauf, Kampung Masjid Lama, 8
  • 6000 Kluang, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysia

Anika Hotel enjoys a better location compared to Prime City and Kluang Riverview , as it sits right in the heart of Kluang city center. If you’re not driving, this is a convenient choice. Plus, right next door is Star Restaurant, a popular spot for delicious Chinese cuisine.

After resting for 2 hours at the hotel to escape the afternoon heat — and also because we woke up really early 5 am to beat the crowd at the Woodland border — we headed to Kluang city around 4 pm to check out the street art. You can either walk or drive, but since we were feeling a bit lazy, we drove, which was convenient because parking in Kluang town is easy to find. After all, it’s a small town with plenty of free parking.

The street art features a lot of bats, which ties into the town’s name. “Kluang” in Malay means bat, specifically the flying fox. Back in the old days, the area had plenty of bats, which is why the town got its name. You’ll also notice that the bat symbol is used as a town icon around Kluang.

Old Photography Shop in Kluang town

I also popped into an old photography shop run by a lovely elderly couple in their 70s and 80s. To support their business, I bought a few wooden photo frames. The total for three frames came to RM71, and the old lady even offered me a RM1 discount. Since I only had RM1 in cash, I decided to give her RM71 anyway — it felt good to support their shop.

For dinner, we wanted to try a nice sit-down place, so we headed to

6. Star Restaurant

  • 10 & 12, Jalan Sultanah, Kampung Masjid Lama,
  • 86000 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

The restaurant is clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned — a good spot to unwind after a long day. Once seated, they served us some appetizers: cherry tomatoes with sour plum and a plate of peanuts.

Here’s what we ordered:

  • Crispy Duck (RM68): Their signature dish, perfectly crispy skin with tender meat inside, served with 10 steamed buns.
  • Eggplant with Garlic (RM20)
  • Chicken Soup with Mushroom (RM28)
  • Stewed Pear with Rock Sugar (RM18) – a refreshing dessert.
  • Cherry Tomatoes Appetizer (RM5)
  • Peanuts (RM3.50)
  • Warm Water (RM2)
  • Wet Towel (RM1)

With 6% SST and 5% service charge, the total came up to RM161.51.

Eyewear Shop : Nan Seng Optical Co.

  • 6, Jalan Dato Rauf, Kampung Masjid Lama,
86000 Kluang, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysia

After a sumptuous dinner, I took a stroll around Kluang town and went into an eyewear shop. I asked about the price of glasses, and the elderly owner invited me in for an eye check. He spent some time checking my eyes — and to my surprise, there was not a single modern machine in the shop; everything was done manually using the old traditional method. It honestly felt so backward.

To be honest, it wasn’t a very pleasant experience — I felt the old man was a bit pushy and impatient, urging me to pick a pair quickly. At the same time, I felt bad leaving without giving him any business, so I ended up choosing a pair of glasses. He made the glasses immediately, and the total cost was RM250.

7.  Kluang RailCoffee

44 & 46, Jalan Duku, Kampung Masjid Lama,
86000 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

It was a Sunday morning when I went for breakfast at Kluang RailCoffee, arriving around 8 am. The place was already packed, with a long queue despite the many seats available. Parking is convenient as there’s a large car park nearby, but you’ll need to pay with Touch ’n Go.

Kluang 2 day 1 Night Food trail - 11 Places

On the menu, you’ll find the famous triangle-packed nasi lemak (small portion, only RM2), their iconic Kluang coffee, and classic toasted kaya bread. There are also several types of Malay noodles to choose from.

The coffee shop sits right next to the railway tracks, adding to its old-school charm. Most of the customers here are Malay, as the kopitiam is halal-certified, serving up favourites like roti bakar with butter and kaya alongside their signature brews.

8. Restoran Ming Hiong 明香茶餐室

  • 131, Jalan Lambak, Kampung Masjid Lama,
86000 Kluang, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysia

This spot is famous for its curry noodles — a must-try in Kluang. The bowl comes loaded with si ham (cockles), char siew, and tofu puffs that soak up all the rich curry flavour. One taste and you’ll understand why locals and visitors keep coming back. The curry is thick, fragrant, and has just the right touch of coconut creaminess.

They also serve lao shu fen (rat-tail noodles), but in my opinion, their curry pairs best with their signature noodles — thinner and smoother than the usual yellow mee, without the oily aftertaste, making it a perfect match for the curry.

Curry noodles RM8
☕ Coffee RM2.30

9. L.C.S猪肉商店

  • 115, Jalan Lambak, Kampung Masjid Lama,
86000 Kluang, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysia

If you’re craving roast pork and char siew, Kluang is also well known for them. Just walk a few shops down from Ming Hiong 明香茶餐室, and you’ll find a stall selling freshly roasted delights. I bought RM10 each of char siew and roast pork, packed for takeaway — and honestly, I couldn’t wait. I ended up enjoying them straight in the car right after.

10. Xun Wei 寻味

  • 115, Jalan Lambak, Kampung Masjid Lama,
86000 Kluang, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysia

Next to the roast pork shop, there’s also a stall selling local kueh-kueh. The lady told me everything is handmade, with preparation starting as early as 2 am. While it’s nice to see such dedication, I found the taste to be just average. Personally, I still think Taiping has the best-tasting kueh-kueh.

11. 三輪車傳統糕點 Thrisaw Food House

  • 125, Jalan Lambak, Kampung Masjid Lama,
86000 Kluang, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysia

I tried their glutinous rice ham chim peng (糯米咸煎饼) and rice dumpling with pork and mushroom. The glutinous rice ham chim peng was delicious — perfectly chewy and savoury in the middle. These days, it’s hard to find glutinous rice ham chim peng in Singapore, so it was a real treat to enjoy it here in Kluang. If anyone is craving this classic snack, this is definitely the place to check out!

Here you go, these are the 11 top places to check out the food in Kluang.
