Things to note before your departure:

  1. Setup Alipay and Wechat wallet.  Sometimes one don’t work and you can use the other one.  All transactions are e-wallet, you hardly need to use cash.
  2. Visa Requirements – Ensure you have the appropriate visa for your stay. China generally requires visitors to obtain a visa in advance, so check the visa requirements well before your departure.
  3. Internet Access and VPN – I paid for roaming back home and I can use WhatsApp, facebook, tiktok and IG.
  4. Transportation -Familiarize yourself with the local transportation system, including the high-speed rail network.  Download Didi app as it come super useful.  Taxis are widely available outside high speed train station.  Queue are in order so there is no worries to get a taxi and they are all in meter.

Guide on high speed train

After booking a high-speed train ticket online in China, there are several important considerations and steps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey. Here’s a guide on what to look out for:

1. Ticket Confirmation:
After booking your ticket, check your email to ensure you have received a confirmation. This confirmation usually contains details such as your seat number, train number, and departure time.
2. ID Requirement:
Chinese high-speed train tickets are usually linked to passengers’ identification. Ensure that you have the required ID (usually a passport for foreigners) that matches the name on the ticket.
3. Arrive Early:
Arrive at the train station well in advance of your departure time. High-speed trains in China are punctual, and the boarding process is efficient, but it’s always good to allow some buffer time.
4. Security Check:
Before entering the train station, you will need to go through a security check, similar to airport security. Have your ID and ticket ready for inspection.
5. Ticket Collection:
If you booked an e-ticket, you only need to show your passport and their system will automatically show which train you will be catching.  You no longer need to go to the counter to change the physical ticket like last time.
6. Platform Information:
Check the electronic display boards or ask station staff for the platform information for your train. High-speed train stations in China are well-signposted in English, so navigating should not be too challenging.
7. Boarding the Train:
Make your way to the correct platform and wait for the train. Follow the signs and announcements to locate your designated car and seat. High-speed trains typically have clear markings on the platforms. Look at the floor of the platform as it has some number indication.
8. Seat Assignment:
Ensure you sit in the correct seat as indicated on your ticket. The car number and seat number are usually clearly marked on the outside and inside of the train cars.
9. Luggage Considerations:
Best size to travel is use medium size luggage, you can either put in next to your leg room or at the top railing.
10. Enjoy the Journey:
Once on board, relax and enjoy the journey. High-speed trains in China are known for their comfort, speed, and efficiency. You’ll likely have the opportunity to enjoy scenic views along the way.
11. Alighting at Your Destination:
Be prepared to alight at your destination quickly. High-speed trains make brief stops, so have your belongings ready and exit the train promptly.
12. Follow Station Signs:
After exiting the train, follow the signs within the station to reach the exit or connecting transportation options. If you have a further journey, make sure you allow ample time for any transfers.

Final thoughts:

With direct flight from Singapore to Zhengzhou, it is pretty convenient, just follow my itinerary Singapore to Zhenghou, Kaifeng, Luoyang and Xian then back to Singapore.  This is an interesting route especially you got to see few the ancient old town of Kaifeng and Luoyang.  Things in Kaifeng and Luoyang are very affordable.  There are a lot of “follow shooting” around so best if you could dress up nicely in your traditional clothing Hanfu and then follow shooting guy will be following you around and teaching you how to pose in the photos.  Hanfu experience shops are also widely seen in Kaifeng, Luoyang and Xian.
