Groove to Hollywood Walk of Fame
Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of Los Angeles’ most visited tourist attraction so I must check it out too since I am in LA! Our hotel is very near to the Hollywood Walk of Fame so we walked there. In front of us were three black guys wearing colorful suits with their pointy shoes dancing their way to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They are really good in dancing! Very entertaining to see them get into the groove!
Egyptian Theatre
Egyptian Theatre is movie theater located prominently at Hollywood Boulevard. You will not miss it as the architecture of the theatre is quite unique with the theme of the Egyptian. This is one of the most historical buildings in Hollywood. It was owned by Sid Grauman who also owned few other Broadway movie palaces. The first Hollywood’s movie premiere was here at the Egyptian Theatre for “Robin Hood” back in the 1922. If you have the time to spend, then catch a movie at the Egyptian Theatre. Most of the films are classic and enjoy the stunning interior! If you don’t have the time, you may want to go into their beautiful courtyard and lobby to check out the Egyptian art piece.
Walk of Fame in Hollywood Boulevard
In total there are more than 2,600 stars embedded in the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard so I am sure I can I could spot some of the stars that I knew.
Marketing tactic
The original idea to have Walk of Fame was mainly for the marketing tactic. There are 5 categories of inductees in the Walk of Fame – Motion Pictures, Television, Recording or Music, Radio and Theatre/Live Performance. You can recognized them by the different logos in the stars.
You and me can nominate for a star!
You and me, anyone can nominate for a star on the Walk of Fame, just paid for $30,000 fee but your favorite star has to agree to accept the offer too.
Two Michael Jackson Stars!
Glad to spot my favorite pop idol Michael Jackson but be careful as there are two Michael Jackson. One is the the radio DJ and one is my favorite King of Pop.
Boxer Muhammad Ali Star
Not all the stars agree to have a star on the floor, some even rejected it. An example was Muhammad Ali simply he didn’t like people to walk all over his name and it didn’t show any respect. His star is located at the wall instead of the floor so there is no chance people will walk over him. And guess what categories he is in? ” Live performance”. Well, he did perform in the boxer ring.
Fictional characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck also get a star at the Walk of Fame!
Star With Chewing Gum!
Notice a star (refer to below) that is terribly dirty as compared to the rest of the stars on the walk of fame. Too many haters! 🙂
Costumed Superhero in Walk of Fame
If you found your favorite superhero and wanted to take a picture together, then be prepared to get your tips ready. There is no change given if you only have $10 dollars. You can easily spot Batman, Spiderman, Cat Woman etc here.
Other Street Performers
Really good vibes here to enjoy street entertainment!
Dolby Theatre – Academy Award Red Carpet – Must visit!
The Dolby Theatre is home to two of the biggest television programs, the Academy Awards and American Idol. Red Carpet is here! You can get a glimpse of this ultra glamorous side of Dolby Theatre and join a Dolby Theatre tour. This is a must do in Hollywood LA.
Street Art : Painting
Street Art : Sculpting
Street Art : Spray Paint
By looking at the name, you will know this Theatre also owned by Grauman. This is the second Theatre open by Grauman after the Egyptian Theatre. The architecture is Chinese themed. Interior of the Chinese Theatre is decorated with authentic treasures hand selected from China by Grauman himself. So expect to see antiques and old artifacts. If you love Chinese culture, you may want to book a tour to Chinese Theatre.
Street Food at Hollywood Walk of Fame
Oscar Award Trophy
The real Oscar trophy stands 13.5 inches tall and weighs in at a robust 8.5 pounds. Not that tall for sure, I don’t even dare to get any closer as it will expose how tall I am.
This is the time to spend some time with your Hollywood stars in Madame Tussauds Hollywood. This wax museum sits at the right and perfect location to sell their tickets.
If you live long enough you will know many classic Hollywood stars standing there waiting for you to take picture with. You may not be able to find those classic elsewhere.
Souvenirs shops along Walk of Fame Hollywood
Souvenirs sold here aren’t expensive and you can get the Oscar Award Trophy home and present it to your love one! ” Best Wives Award” or ” Best Husband Award” etc
La La Land – Nickname of Los Angeles/LA
Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum
If you love weird stuff, this is a great and fun museum to explore. There are few Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum in US, if you have more time to kill in LA, go check out this one in Hollywood. I used to watch Ripley’s Believe It or Not show when I was little 🙂
Los Angeles – City of Angels
The name of Los Angeles came from Spanish and the meaning is the city of Angels. It is the second populous city in US after New York City. You will find many Mexican culture here and Spanish languages can be heard everywhere on the streets.
Having Chinese
Orange Chicken and Hunan Beef
The portion is super big, what I like most is there are plenty of vegetable served together with the meat.
Fortune cookies and the Bills & Tips
After the meal, fortune cookies were given as usual. Tipping is about 10-15 percent. Since we dine in the restaurants, tipping is a must.
Final Tips
We visited few convenient stores in Hollywood and most of them are owned by Korean, things selling at higher price. A bottle of water cost about USD 3.00. Well, if you don’t want to pay, you can always drink from the tap since American water is safe from the tap, same as Japan and Australia. It is safe to drink straight from the tap. Boiling is not needed.
