When you do Great Ocean Road there are so many lookout areas and one of them is Mariners Lookout point in Apollo Bay. We stayed in Apollo Bay so getting here early in the morning to check out the sunrise in Marriners Lookout.
Marriners lookout is a slightly steep 5 minutes walk from the car park. There is a small car park in front of the residents’ housing area. Please park in the open space and do not park in front of the driveway of the resident’s house as you will block their cars from coming out or going in.
There is a little gate but it is not locked, just push the gate and walk up the hill.
The hike up is not that hard as it is only 5 mins, you can take your own sweet time to come up. At the top, you will be rewarded with spectacular expansive views overlooking Apollo Bay, Marengo and the east of Cape Patton.
The view of the township and the surrounding neighborhood is really beautiful, this is what we need when we are on vacation. Stay here for about 15-20 mins to look at the view of the ocean and watch the waves moving is so relaxing.
If you are lucky, you will spot the paragliding activities as this is a popular location for paragliders to take off.
Alternatively, bring along a picnic mat and sit on the green lawn with your sandwiches and enjoy the scenery, the wind, and the sun. This is a perfect spot for a picnic. Please take your trash home and do not leave it there. There is no picnic table & chairs and no rubbish bin.
No pet is allowed in this area. Please also note that this is a private farmland that was donated to the Shire to let public visitors look at the incredible view. Don’t litter and keep this place clean.
Final thoughts:
Marriners Lookout is a hidden gem and please do not miss out on this place if you are doing Great Ocean Road.

Excellent tip about the Mariners Look-Out. I’m always looking for these little gems to get out of the car and actually “Stop. Look. Appreciate.” the scenery that’s around. In this case: it’s beautiful. Thank you!

How sweet to have that opportunity. That sounds like a good walk to take in the wee hours of the morning and overlook when the sun is coming up (or eve when the sun is going down). I do love a great view.
