Singapore : Dempsey Hill

Singapore : Dempsey Hill

One of my weekends getaway recently was to Dempsey Hill.  This place is actually very close to the city.  From Orchard Road to Dempsey Hill only take about 10 mins.  This place is near to the city but it is actually very quiet and exclusive, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.

When I arrived here I felt the place is a little different from the rest of Singapore, the surrounding and the ambient.  This place is super serene and you won’t even realize this is only few km away from the city.  If you have not been here, you have to come and feel it yourself.

There are actually many things you can do in Dempsey Hill, this place is not just a eatery place but also a place to relax and shopping.

Wood Farm

If you are interested in the woods furniture and some antique, Dempsey Hill is always a great place to hunt for those treasure.

Terracotta and other Antique

Dempsey Hill is really a great place to escape for all the lush greenery surrounded here.  This area is very huge, the buildings here are former British army barracks, then used for the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).

Now it has become lifestyle destination which include restaurants, cafe, Spa & retails shops selling antique, wood furniture & carpet.

You won’t believe even the legendary Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld choose Dempsey Hill for their Cruise Collection runway 2013/2014.

This is definitely a great place to catch up with friends as there are so many international restaurant and cafe, a great place for dining.

Some of the building here are painted in white which has a very strong colonial feel.  Of course this place is unique and have some historical background.

If you want a night out with friends, this is the place to visit.  You can always hang out in the bar and have a couple of drinks before dinner or after dinner.  The Green Door Bar look super cool, it has a wooden bear outside the gate to welcome you.  Guests can also sit on the swings at the garden and enjoy their drinks.

Dempsey Hill is truly an great choice as it has something for everyone, you can also find Halal restaurants here.

Take a stroll in this place, the compound is so big.  If you have time, go in and check out their art galleries, you may find something you like 🙂

Wonder how does the name came about?

Dempsey Hill is named after General Sir Miles Christopher Dempsey (1896–1969), a capable and highly regarded soldier who had a decorated military career.

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant at Dempsey Hill

Long Beach at Dempsey

We choose to have our dinner at Long Beach because as we know about their good reputation.  Indeed it did not disappoint us.  We ordered a lobster and crab set which include a lobster, a Sri-Langka Crab, mushroom and vegetable, noodles with lala/clam and two desserts.  A four dishes and two dessert menu set.

Cereal Lobster

What a smart way to cook lobster.  The lobster was very huge and lot of meat. It went so well with the cereal.

Sri Langka Chili Crab

In Long Beach, their signature crab should be black pepper crab but we don’t like black pepper so we changed to chili crab.  The taste was excellent and the crab is very meaty.  Did not disappoint us!

Deep Fried Flat Rice Noodles With Lala King

Bandung Rose Jelly Dessert

There is one more dish – the mushroom with vegetable which I have forgotten to take picture.  Total of 4 dish with 2 dessert.  The set meal is SGD $188 ++ for 2 pax.  We have 3 pax/adults eating but still not able to finish and pack home. The service is really good, waiters came often to change our dirty plates and help us divide the food portion.  My experience in Long Beach Seafood Dempsey is really unforgettable and thumb up.  Highly recommended for those who love lobster and crab.

Halal Resturant, Samy’s Curry Dempsey next to Long Beach Restaurant. Apparently it was so full at the Samy’s Curry.  The curry must be very good.

What I like about coming to Dempsey Hill are the lush greenery, quietness and the free car park.

How to get here :
